LOCAL GRAPHIC DESIGNER CAPTURES AWARDS

Laurel Black Design Wins in National Logo Competitions

Port Angeles, WA. Laurel Black Design today announced 3 wins for Northwest business logos in 2 national design competitions.  American Corporate Identity honored Laurel Black’s logos in the Trademark/Logo Design category of their 23rd annual competition. They selected Black’s work for Natural Native American Products LLC, of Gresham, OR, and Marilyn Mantor, CPA, of Sequim, WA.  In a separate contest, Graphic Design USA issued the American Graphic Design Award for a logo Black created for Straight Equity Private Real Estate Investments, of Port Angeles, WA.

The panels that judged each competition included a total of 11 leading figures in the graphics industry. Award certificates were issued for winning entries. The winning logos and awards will be published in the yearbooks of the awarding organizations.

Laurel Black Design has been providing graphic support to businesses since 1980, along with illustration, copywriting, and promotional consultation. Many of Black’s designs have become familiar landmarks on the Olympic Peninsula, including logos for Jefferson Transit, Olympic Medical Center, Jace Real Estate, and the Highway 101 Safety Corridor. Black states that all her work follows one philosophy: that branding, identity, and marketing messages all rest on the foundation of client-driven graphic design.

American Corporate Identity is an annual design competition with a 23 year history. According to ACI, their contest showcases work judged best in American identity graphics. Each year hundreds of creatives submit thousands of entries hoping to be included in the ACI annual. Designers from 35 states entered the 23rd edition competition. The “American Corporate Identity 2008” yearbook will be published by HarperCollins and distributed in more than 40 countries.

Graphic Design USA is in its 44th year. They position the American Graphic Design Awards as the most open, democratic, and prestigious of such events. Only 10 percent of thousands of entries were honored this year. The “Graphic Design USA Annual” will be distributed to a national audience of creative and marketing decision makers. Adobe Systems Incorporated was this year’s exclusive sponsor. Winning entries may be eligible to be showcased as a creative project on Adobe’s web site.
