How to get audiophile sound from a CD player for under $500. . .

Get incredibly lucky.

Score a used Ah! Tjoeb 99 CD player.

This wonderful-sounding CD player became a value sensation, maybe even a cult object, on Audioreview.com.  It conveys music accurately through any good system, with superb –

  • transparency,
  • extension,
  • definition,
  • neutrality.

All together, these add up to and amazing realism.

It delivers the music fluently through either solid state or tube amplification.

Can the $5000 Wadia. Why spend that kind of money when you can have better for less?

This player made my all-tube system a soundstaging monster. The illusion of presence became uncanny on good recordings.

These players are recently out of production. I am letting one go as I upgrade to the new Ah! Tjoeb model, for about twice the cost.

Forget Rotel. That CD player can’t hold a candle to the Ah! Tjoeb for price/performance.

This one I’m selling is like new.  It has all available options: AC Noise Killer, Super Crystal, Coaxial Digital output, and spare Phillips ECC88/6922 JAN tubes, good for up to 10,000 hours. And the upgraded NOS tubes I broke in are still singing in it.  For full specs and details, including photos, go to the manufacturer’s site:

100-plus ecstatic owners can’t be wrong!

"Musical, deep. You thought the harshness was coming from your cheap amplifier. It was your CD player.”

“There is absolutely nothing for even double the price that could touch this unit. The sound quality is superb.”

“This babe rocks!  Don't your money into Wadia's.  Buy a Tjoeb and a car instead!”

Be quick, and bid well -- this won’t last. Hint: these CD players typically sell for up to 90% of their new price, and they’re no longer available new.  First $400 offer takes it!

If you get this CD player, you’ll hear things on your favorite disks that you never knew were there.

I prefer PayPal, but will accept cashier’s check, travelers’ checks, money order, or cash if you’re in San Diego. Buyer pays shipping.

By the way, your wife called me.  She said it’s OK for you to one of these. . .
